Disk Wipe (dw) is a GNU BASH shell script designed to run on GNU Linux systems. Requirements: Linux, GNU Coreutils, and GNU BASH. In other words, any Linux system. Disk Wipe will wipe a device with random data then zero-out all bytes on the device. Disk Wipe is not sufficient for military use. It is intentionally written to only perform one pass of random data, which is suitable for civilian use, for speed and to allow forensic investigators to examine disks using Magnetic Force Microscopy (MFM) techniques.
